Ouji

"Does it actually work?" I inquired.
"I don't know, we'll have to find out," Kelsey said.
Pulling the Ouji Board out, I had a bone chilling shiver that ran through my body.
"Go turn off the light," Kelsey stated, "oh also, get a candle."
"Why a candle?"
"To see if a spirit is here, duh," Kelsey sneered.

    *****
"I think we should got to bed," I said tiredly.
As we moved the little plastic arrow to say 'good bye' something took hold and spelt out 'not yet'. Frozen in fear we looked at each other, dumbfounded. Immediately, we let go of the arrow, but the spirit wasnt done yet. Staring, as the the flame flickered and then went out. Not knowing that this was the least of our worries.

"So, is that ghost story true?" I stammered.
"No... not exactly," Melissa stated.
Thunder boomed, silence filled the bedroom. We sat there, in our orange pyjamas, quivering.
" I think we should got to bed," I said promptly.
"Okay if you say so." Mallissmelissa said sarcastically.

* * *
Tap..tap...tap.
"What was that?" I inquired.
"Just a branch," Mallisa said groggily.
I jumped up and peered out the window, nothing but rain.
"That's a lot of rain."
"Yeah?"
The rain appeared to make a ghostly face as it swam down the road.
"Let's go back to bed," I said quickly.
I haven't listened to a ghost story since.

It's Real

People always say heaven is beautiful, and they're right.
"So, let's back up," the nurse said sitting down.
"Ok I was put into a coma from a tragic car accident. During the coma all I remember is this mystical staircase and I started walking up it. Not knowing it was 'the light', the light you see when you die, I kept going. Until... I guess it wasn't my time to reach heaven, so one of the steps gave way, and here I am.
"Are you sure this wasn't a dream?" The nurse asked.
"I'm sure," I stated, "heaven is for real."

Last Tear

Waiting until dumb detention starts.
"Boy's and girl's, you all know why you're here, correct?"
"Yes," we all said, annoyed.
"Well, you will be finishing your 5 page essay," Mr.Stark stated.
"No!" We all booed.
"Make that your 6 page essay."
As we started to write the dumb essay the tsunami alarm sounded.

*****
Pummelled to the ground, engulfing water, gasping for air. Suddenly I couldn't move, it was at that moment I faded away just like our town full of memories. I cried my last tear for I couldn't say I love you to my mom, dad, and beloved sister.

When?
"Honestly, come on! There's not pets allowed and you just come around and urinate on me."
"Hush down you bitter old bottle bin."
Lately, all the recycling compartments have been yelling at each other.
"I can't wait for my upgrade I'll be new and improved!" I said out loud.
"Litter, dude, you have it easy."
"Really? You think that having half eaten sandwiches and day old smoothies thrown at you is easy?"
"Well..." Bottle stammered.
"Exactly, it's annoying."
"Just wait until you get your update and you'll be one of us!"
But that day never came.

Twisted
Sprinting between palm trees, I pulled myself to a halt. Panting, I put my hand in the box and felt around and there it was, the hatchet. Looking around now surrounded by palm trees, I couldn't tell where I had come from. I stood there searching for others, there was no one. My partner Sam had fallen through a pile of leaves into a wooden dagger. I couldn't help but think of her, only if I told her not to... tears started to run down my cheek. You could say all the teams probably died, I guess this is what you get when you play a twisted game show.

                                                          The Regular Balloon

Tugging at my mom's sweater, trying to get her attention.
"Mom look at the dot in the sky!"
"Henry not now," my mom said occupied.
Of course my mom wouldn't listen to her fascinated 6 year old son. I thought this odd dot would stop, but the spot just grew and grew until I could tell what it was. To my shock it was an air balloon gracefully floating down.
"Look at the air balloon!" I hollered.
"We see them all the time," she sighed.
"But this is a cool one."
"Honestly, Henry it's the back side of a regular Remax air balloon."
"Oh... wow... umm... hmm... nevermind" I said embarrassed.

Trying to admirer statues

Ongoing debates? 6 hour conversations? I thought to myself.
"Hey mom did you know that is where 3 cultures came together?"
"Oh...that's nice honey," my mom said uninterested.
"No, but mom listen to this. It was as if they were frozen in time. These statues have been a big par-"
"Honey I'm trying to concentrate."
"Hmm trying to concentrate on your phone," I muttered.
"Let me keep reading, so it says it was a big part of history an-"
"Hon-"
"Mom! Honestly, let me talk."
"Honey I'm try-"
"You know what mom? I'm done!" I say sharply walking away to admire something else.

The Definition of Superhero

Writing assignment: Who is your Superhero?

Soaring through the sky? Saving the planet? Does that sound like a superhero to you? Well my 'superhero' is a little different. She scares off the monsters under my bed. My 'superhero' is my grandma. She has one amputated leg, and my grandpa passed away years ago.

As an independent woman, she's strong when times are tough. She has taught me that it's better to persevere and push through it, then sulk and feel sorry for yourself.

"That's my journal entry." I said nervously. And to my surprise the class erupted into applause.

The Gas Pipe

Gas engulfed the auditorium, while parents frantically looked for their daughters. My dance recital was now a room full of parents and kids that look like they are swimming through gas. Standing in my little green tutu not knowing what to do, or where my parents are, I knew I was likely to get stuck in this room and suffocate. Earlier my recital was going fantastic, until a gas pipe broke when a dancer fell while getting changed in the mechanical room. Now here I am waiting until suddenly I can't breathe. I stumble backwards tripping over someones foot and I fall hard.

The Almost Escape

Fiddling with my pencil, I sat there, waiting for the clock to strike two. Melissa and I were going to meet in the school bathroom. Finally, we're in the clear and out of class. Silently, we walked toward the main school doors. Pressing the wheelchair button, the door opened and there it was. Well I guess I shouldn't call her an 'it'. Mrs. June, the principle, stood right in front of us.
"So...you girls going somewhere?"
"Well...um...uh," Melissa stammered.
"To the office you go! Wait until your parents hear that you girls were sneaking out of class!"
"Thanks a lot Mrs. June," we murmured.

The Reflection

"Bye mom, I'm just going for a stroll!"
"Bye, be home soon."
Walking out the door Kate began to cry. Her best friend Lav had moved 1 week today, to a different city. Even though they were just an hour away it was different not seeing her at school anymore. Kate came across a puddle. Looking at her reflection, she saw the tears come rolling off her cheek. As she wiped them away, she was shocked to see Lav standing right behind her. Still staring into the puddle with disbelief swallowing her face, she spun around.
"I'm back!" Lav said excitedly.

The Drawing Challenge

"Hey Zack, what are you drawing for the drawing competition?"
"Well... I think I'm going to draw firefighters with wings, saving a lady from a burning building, and people are all going to be watching?"
"Wow! We know who has a 'strange imagination'." Smith said snarkily.
"Hey!" Snapped Zack, "It'll look better then yours Smith."
"At least mine will be more realistic then yours." Zack proclaimed.
"May the best man win!"
Time passed and finally they entered their drawings into the contest. Zack ended up winning with his flying firefighters, saving a women from a burning house drawing.
"Maybe strange is good." Smith mumbled.

At Least I Have You

Grabbing his tux from the dry cleaner, he ran back into his car and started gelling his hair. It was Spencer's mothers birthday. He rolled up to his mother's house, she wore a lavender 'old lady dress'. Spencer finally pulled into what he liked to call 'The Old Lady Club'. His mother and him had a pretty good time in the conga line, and doing the chicken dance.
His mother smiled and said, "At least I still have you."
Spencer didn't know what his mother meant, but later that day he realized that he was really the only person that him mom had left.

Kite

It floated up like Mary Poppin's umbrella. My favourite firetruck red kite was now long gone. I watched it take off over the mountain, it is forever lost. Plopping myself on a hard rock, I sat there head in palm, sulking.
"Now what do I do?"
"Well..." said a low raspy voice behind me.
"You could use mine."
I gazed up at this spindly looking man, grasping a yellow kite.
"Really?" I asked.
"Ya sure, why not!"
"Cool thanks!"
That's when it registered, he was the man from the T.V.. The one who abducted the girl. I dropped the kite and ran.

The ER Trip

Walking into the ER my hand ached even more, as I joined the queue a man stumbled in. He started to scream, a nurse hurried to his side trying to calm him down.
"Whats wrong sir?"
"My arm!" he shrieked.
As I turned to get a better look at his mangled arm, a swarm of doctors and nurses laid him on a gurnie. People started to gag as he was swept away.
"Is he going to be okay?" A lady inquired.
"I'm not sure, but what's important is that we help whoever is next."
It was my turn. I walked up and gave the receptionist my medical card.

Mt.Cupquake

Bill and I had set out this morning to conquer Mt.Cupquake. Mt.Cupquake was a tougher climb then the ones we do normally but it pays off, if you bring a fork. When we got to the top we sat on the icing ledge and pulled out our forks. Bill immediately started to munch on a piece of cinnamon covered licorice and I started to enjoy a hand full of icing. "No need for forks now Bill!" I yelled showing him my icing filled hand. "This has been a pretty sweet hike, no pun intended," Bill said laughing.
